New Porch for the Church

Great news for the congregation and friends of the church of St Andrew. We have secured the funding through fundraising and grants for the installation of the new glass lobby within the main north door entrance.

Work will begin towards the end of January and the lobby should be finished for the opening of the “Riverside coffee shop” within the church on the 25^th March 2012.

We hope this addition will help keep our heating bills down: fuel for heating is very expensive for this large building and eats up a great deal of our income. It will also promote a more welcoming entrance with an open door approach and create a warm atmosphere for those wishing to spend time in the church whether for worship, pleasure, refreshments or learning about their heritage.

We wish to thanks all those who have supported the church events throughout 2011, all those who have helped promote the church as a community building and those who have given generous grants or contributions for such schemes to succeed. We would like to thank (defra) “LEADER” Coast, Wolds, Wetlands & Waterways (The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development Europe, investing in rural areas, supported by Yorkshire Forward the region’s development agency) for their continual support with funding. Without their support it would be hard for the building to survive in today’s society and also meet the social needs of the wider community.

Thank you to those who give their time freely and do so much volunteer work for the good of others.

May God bless those involved and those who support the work of the church family, give them the strength to carry on and encourage them to share faith and love with others and in the community.

Walking for Health in Paull

Fancy a 30 minute or a one hour walk? Both will set off from St Andrew Church, in Paull, led by volunteers from the community. Regular walking can help lead to a healthier lifestyle; improve confidence, stamina, energy, weight control and help prevent medical conditions such as coronary heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and stress.

All walks require no specialist equipment, just turn up in loose clothing and suitable shoes. Participants are also asked to bring a drink and an umbrella, as the walks will take place whatever the weather.

There is ample car parking at each walk, plus the chance to use toilet facilities and purchase refreshments at St Andrew Church’s Riverside Pop In Cafe.

Fundraising Meeting

The next meeting of the Fund Raising Committee will take place on Tuesday 1st November 2011 at 7.00 pm at the home of Sara Shaw 57 Main Street, Paull. Anyone who would like to join the committee and help raise funds to maintain our Church will be very welcome to come along on the day.

Riverside Pop in Cafe

The cafe within the Church will be open every Saturday Sunday and Bank holiday from 2.00pm to 4.00 pm between Sunday 25th March 2012 through until October 2012. We are seeking volunteers to join a rota to look after the cafe each weekend. Training will be given to anyone who can spare a couple of hours for just one day or a series of dates. We were very grateful to all those people who baked cakes, scones etc for sale in the cafe. If you feel you would like to help and could spare a little time to prepare and donate something for the church to sell we would be very grateful. If you would like to help, in any way, or would just like some further information then please contact either Mandy Annison on 01964 626115 or Kay Burn 01964 626228.

The running costs of the Church amount to approximately £1,000 per month and, since it has opened, the cafe has proved to be a major contributor to the those costs.

Churchyard Closure – New Cemetry

With effect from 10th February 2011 the current Churchyard has officially closed. An application was made to Her Majesties Court stating that no suitable places were left for future burials. Burials will still be allowed in family graves which are already in existence and allocated for two people. The ashes plot is closed.

A new piece of land to the east end of the Church has been acquired by Paull Parish Council for any future burials within the Parish. The Parish Council has drawn up a set of rules and charges for burials in the new Churchyard and should you require a copy then this can be obtained from the Parish Clerk, Mrs Dianne Davies.
