Fishermen of Paull

On SaVftP_Paull_Fishermen_1-front_coverturday 10th August 2013 Mr Colin Screeton kindly presented the church with CD copies of stories told by the two last remaining fishermen of Paull, these recordings were made in 1985.  The voices are Mr Sam Pickering and Fred Gorbutt.

Members of the above families were present and village people came along with photographs, it was a great nostalgic afternoon. Volunteers of the church would like to thank Colin and his friends for sharing their thoughts and memories. ” It is good to think we have a record of what those days were like and what the culture of the village was years ago”.

The CD’s are fascinating to listen to, any one can pop along to the church you are most welcome to hear them.

The coffee shop within the church is open March to October 2 till 4p pm every Saturday and Sunday, we have the best ever homemade cakes and a toilet facility or if you would like to bring a group to listen to the CD recordings we can open the church for you

Walking for Health in Paull

Fancy a 30 minute or a one hour walk? Both will set off from St Andrew Church, in Paull, led by volunteers from the community. Regular walking can help lead to a healthier lifestyle; improve confidence, stamina, energy, weight control and help prevent medical conditions such as coronary heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and stress.

All walks require no specialist equipment, just turn up in loose clothing and suitable shoes. Participants are also asked to bring a drink and an umbrella, as the walks will take place whatever the weather.

There is ample car parking at each walk, plus the chance to use toilet facilities and purchase refreshments at St Andrew Church’s Riverside Pop In Cafe.

Riverside Pop in coffee shop

Thr ‘Riverside Pop in Coffee Shop’ will re-open for the 2013 season on Sunday March 24th 2013. The coffee shop within the Church will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 2.00pm to 4.00 pm between Sunday 24th March 2013 through until October 2013. The coffee shop is a significant source of income and is important in keeping our church open for everyone. Many people come to enjoy the architecture of this 14th Century Mediaval Church. We have our own Heritage Trail, a walk that starts and finishes at the church and takes about 2 hours to complete. A book is available from the Church that not only guides you round the trail but explains the history of the village which dates back to the Domesday Book. This year we have added a new glass porch to the building that will not only further protect the building itself but also increase your own comfort. You may just like to enjoy a quiet cup of tea/coffee and homemade cakes an prices that give excellent value. The tranquility of the Church and beauty of the Church leads many visitors to want to pray quietly at the alter or light a candle in memory of someone. Please feel free to enjoy our church in any way you wish.

The running costs of the Church amount to approximately £1,000 per month and, since it has opened, the coffee shop has proved to be a major contributor to the those costs.

Volunteers needed to run the coffee shop

The coffee shop is open every Saturday and Sunday between 2.00pm and 4.00pm and needs just a few more volunteers to help in the coffee shop which provides the main income that allows the church to remain open. If you are prepared to just give a couple of hours every now and then it would be greatly appreciated. The coffee shop provides not only teas and coffee but a fantastic surrounding to meet other people or even to have a quiet moment for yourself.

If you can spare even a few hours then please phone Mandy Annison on 01964 626115 or Kay Burn 01964 626228 who will be only too pleased to answer any questions you may have.
